Those of you who are fans of actor Robert Redford, probably remember a movie which he starred in named “Sneakers., that came out in 1992. Near the end of that film, there is a brief heated discussion between Marty Bishop (Redford) and Cosmo (Ben Kingsley). Cosmo is trying to get Bishop to becoming his partner in crime, but it isn’t working, so Cosmo says the following, “The world isn’t run by weapons anymore, or energy, or money, it’s run by little ones and zeros, little bits of data, it’s all just electrons.
. . . There’s a war out there old friend, a world war and it’s not about who’s got the most bullets, it’s about who controls the information, what we see, what we hear, how we work, what we think, it’s all about the information.”
Somewhat prophetic wouldn’t you say? May each of us discern truth from error as the future unfolds. For sure we can’t always believe what we see and hear, so we need
to be very cautious what we accept, especially if we aren’t allowed to hear any alternate viewpoints, or people call you names instead of having a mature conversation. We need to consider the long-range outcomes of what we support; what’s the end result in a few decades? Currently, it doesn’t seem that we are “being wise as serpents” in our acceptance of the hot topics that come from our society’s modern Mars Hill.
